The San Ildefonso Boarding School is a unique child care institution. It depends on the "Dirección General de Educación y Juventud del Área de Gobierno de Empleo y Servicios a la Ciudadanía del Ayuntamiento de Madrid". (Education and Youth Department of the Government Office of Employment and Services for Citizens in the Madrid Local Authorities).

It provides support for families which require help in bringing up their children because of their economic, social and structural circumstances. It is a way to support but not replace families with special needs.

What are we trying to do?

Create a framework for living together to assure the harmonious and integral development of the boarders, starting out by understanding their personal and social situation.

Further the children's emotional wellbeing as well as helping them to grow and mature in every way.

Give the girls and boys the tools to understand and face up to their personal, family and social situation.

Educate in respect for the basic human rights and liberties as well as in tolerance for the democratic principles of life together.

Essential requirements

To be registered in the municipality of Madrid.

Have a report from the local authorities' social services or any other institutions that carry out a social work.
