The San Ildefonso School Grant:

This grant is an honorary distinction awarded by the Madrid Town Council. The concession of this award goes back to the 17th century and there are documents that prove this grant was presented in 1712 and 1716. The Town Council brought back this tradition in 1996 and made regulations that are still in effect.

The "San Ildefonso School Grant" is a crimson sash with the San Ildefonso and the Municipal Council's coat of arms. The Mayor or Mayoress of Madrid awards the grants following the proposals of an academic jury made up of San Ildefonso's alderman, the Regional Education Offices of the Madrid Town Council and the Madrid Autonomous Community, the San Ildefonso School and Boarding School's directors and the Town Council's General Secretariat.

The grants are divided into two categories:

Academic grants:

Awarded to children who finish their studies and their stay at the San Ildefonso School and Boarding Wing.

Old students who go on to further studies also receive the grant.

Honorary grants:

Awarded to the Town Council's highest governmental authority and to the Aldermen. The jury can propose a maximum of ten grants.
